Built for the reenactor and matching the Paul Chen Antiqued Gustav Rapier Sword by Hanwei , the Paul Chen Antiqued Gustav Main Gauche provides an authentically styled parrying weapon, with a high carbon steel blade and a hilt finish, developed by Hanwei, that allows a museum quality patina to be applied to stainless steel while the non corroding properties of the steel are retained for reduced maintenance. This finish is very attractive and gives an authentic appearance to the gauche. The blade is interchangeable with the Practical blade which is designed for safety in rapier/main gauche sparring.
The Main Gauche , or left hand dagger , was often used with the rapier sword , providing an added dimension in both offense and defense. The Schools of Fence which proliferated in Europe during the 17th century taught the use of the two weapons in combination. The Main Gauche would often match the Rapier in styling, while incorporating features which maximized the effectiveness of the dagger.
This fully functional main gauche is tailored to meet the demands of re-enactment and stage combat.
