Paul Chen Bone Handled Main Gauche by Hanwei is built for the reenactor and is made as a match for the Paul Chen Bone Handled Swept Hilt Rapier Sword by Hanwei. The Bone Handled Main Gauche is an authentically styled parrying weapon, with a high carbon steel blade and a stainless steel hilt for reduced maintenance. The blade is interchangeable with the Practical blade (CAOH2256) which is designed for safety in rapier/main gauche sparring.
The Main Gauche , or left hand dagger , was often used with the rapier sword , providing an added dimension in both offense and defense. The Schools of Fence which proliferated in Europe during the 17th century taught the use of the two weapons in combination. The Main Gauche would often match the Rapier in styling, while incorporating features which maximized the effectiveness of the dagger.
