The Paul Chen Wood Grip Swept Hilt Rapier Sword by Hanwei features classical lines, with a high carbon steel flex tempered blade, a solid stainless steel swept hilt ( for reduced maintenance ) and a wood grip. The hilt is of the same size as the museum piece on which the Paul Chen Wood Grip Swept Hilt Rapier Sword is based. The weight and balance also match the original rapier sword, thus providing an authentic feel in the user’s hand. The blade is interchangeable with the Practical blade (CAOH2255) which is designed for safety in rapier sparring. The matching Main Gauche (CASH2117) may also be equipped with a sparring blade. A rigid scabbard is included.
This Renaissance style Swept Hilt Rapier Sword traces its origin to early 17th century Europe, where fencing swordplay with the Rapier was considered an essential part of a gentleman's education and was often used in resolving gentlemanly disagreements. Blades generally originated in one of the blade making centers such as Toledo or Solingen, but differences in styling and hilt materials resulted from the local manufacturing of hilts all over Europe.
This fully functional rapier sword is tailored to meet the demands of re-enactment and stage combat.
