Charlemagne, Charles the Great, King of Franks, and Emperor of Western Europe, was born in 742 A.D., and became a famous commander in one of the great centers of power in history: The Sacred Roman Empire. Charlemagne's empire was based on the fighting strength of the Franks, a confederation of barbarian tribes from the land of the Rhine in German. They fulfilled the emptiness of power after the fall of the Roman Empire. Their insatiable ambition, sometimes increased due to the goal of extending Christendom, led them to France, Germany, Italy and many other territories. An aggressive conqueror, wise politician, statesman, and fortunate General, Charlemagne set the shape of the vast empire that, in a different way, has reached to modern times. As told in the Matter of France, Durandal is the name of the sword of Charlemagne's paladin Roland (Roldan). According to Ludovico Ariosto's Orlando Furioso it once belonged to Hector of Troy, and was given to Roland by Malagigi. In The Song of Roland, the sword is said to contain within its hilt one tooth of Saint Peter, blood of Saint Basil, hair of Saint Denis, and a piece of the raiment of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In the poem, Count Roland attempts to destroy the sword to prevent it from being captured by the ambushing Saracens and creates La Brčche de Roland in the Pyrenees in the process. But Durendal proves indestructible, so he hurls it into a poisoned stream instead. Local folklore claims Durendal still exists, preserved in Rocamadour, France. Pulled out from the stone or given by the Lady of the Lake according to the different versions of the legend, the life of King Arthur of Britain is however strictly tied to the magical and mysterious Excalibur sword. Knighted by King Arthur, Sir Lancelot became one of the most legendary figures of the "Round Table". Queen Guinevere was his lady when he swore his vows as a knight. Lancelot continued his knight adventures conquering the castle of the "Pitiful Guard" and he disclosed his origins as "Lancelot du Lac", son of the brave and generous king "Ban Benoic", who had fought loyally at the side of king Arthur and had lost his kingdom, sending his son Lancelot in the company of the "Lady of the lake", to be knighted at the court of king Arthur. His love affair with queen Guinevere led him to fight against all the knights of the Round Table who wanted to save their lord's honor. After defeating one by one, Lancelot admitted his disloyalty to the king, going to a monastery to do penance and pay for his misdeed. Before he died, the Lady of the lake came to help him and they both disappeared forever in the lake, thus honoring his name, "Lancelot du Lac".

Miniature Sir Percival Sword and Shield by Marto of Toledo Spain Miniature Sir Degore Sword and Shield by Marto of Toledo Spain Miniature Sir Bedivere Sword and Shield by Marto of Toledo Spain
Percival or Perceval is one of King Arthur's legendary Knights of the Round Table. Sir Percival is most famous for his involvement in the quest for the Holy Grail. Not very much seems to be known about Sir Degore, yet he seems to have been thought important enough to be included amongst the twenty-five Knights listed on the Winchester Round Table. He appears as King Arthur's cup-bearer in the Celtic tale of Culhwch & Olwen. In King Arthurian legend, Sir Bedivere (also spelt Bedevere) is the Knight of the Round Table who returns Excalibur to the Lady of the Lake. Sir Bedivere serves as King Arthur's marshal and is frequently associated with Sir Kay. Sir Lucan is his brother, Sir Griflet is his cousin. Sir Bedivere, along with Sir Kay and Sir Gawain, is one of the earliest characters associated with King Arthur. Sir Bedivere is described as one-handed, yet still an excellent warrior.

Miniature Sir Kay Sword and Shield by Marto of Toledo Spain Miniature Sir Galahad Sword and Shield by Marto of Toledo Spain Miniature Sir Bohor Sword and Shield by Marto of Toledo Spain
In King Arthurian legend, Sir Kay is Sir Ector's son and King Arthur's foster brother and later seneschal, as well as one of the first Knights of the Round Table. In later literature Sir Kay is known for his acid tongue and bullying, boorish behavior, but in earlier accounts Sir Kay was one of Arthur's premier warriors. Along with Sir Bedivere, with whom he is frequently associated, Sir Kay is one of the earliest characters associated with King Arthur. Sir Galahad is a knight of King Arthur's Round Table and one of the three achievers of the Holy Grail in King Arthurian legend. Sir Galahad is the illegitimate son of Sir Lancelot and Elaine of Carbonek, and is renowned for his gallantry and purity. Sir Galahad is perhaps the knightly embodiment of Jesus in the Arthurian legends. Sir Galahad first appears in the Lancelot Grail cycle, and his story is taken up in later works such as the Post-Vulgate Cycle and Sir Thomas Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur. Sir Bohor (also known as Sir Bors de Ganis and Bohors of Gannes) was the only knight to survive the Quest for the Holy Grail and return to court. Sir Bohor later succeeded his father as King of Gannes. Sir Bohor was the cousin of Sir Lancelot, and he steadfastly supported Lancelot against King Arthur during the conflict between the two. After the death of Lancelot, Bohor returned to the Holy Land where he died fighting in the Crusades.

Sir Gawain was King Arthur's nephew and a Knight of the Round Table who appears very early in the Arthurian legend's. Sir Gawain is one of a select number of Round Table members to be referred to as the greatest knight, most notably in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Sir Gawain is almost always portrayed as the son of Arthur's sister Morgause (or Anna) and King Lot of Orkney and Lothian, and his brothers are Agravain, Gaheris, Gareth, and Mordred. Sir Gawain is often portrayed as a formidable but brash warrior, fiercely loyal to his king and family. Sir Tristram de Lyones is one of the main characters of the Tristan and Iseult story, a Cornish hero and one of the Knights of the Round Table featuring in the Matter of Britain. Sir Tristram de Lyones is the son of Blancheflor and Rivalen (in later versions Isabelle and Meliodas), and the nephew of King Mark of Cornwall, sent to fetch Iseult back from Ireland to wed the king. However, he and Iseult accidentally consume a love potion while en route and fall helplessly in love. The pair undergo numerous trials that test their secret affair Sir Brunor le Noir, (also spelled Breunor) , nicknamed La Cote Male Taile (the badly-shaped coat) by Sir Kay after his arrival in his murdered father's coat at King Arthur's court, is a character mentioned in Arthurian legend. Sir Brunor le Noir received his knighthood after saving Guinevere from an escaped lion.

Sir Hector de Maris is a Knight of the Round Table in Arthurian legend. Sir Hector de Maris is the half-brother of Lancelot and the natural son of King Ban of Benwick and the Lady de Maris. Sir Bors and Sir Lionel are his cousins. Sir Hector de Maris participates in the Grail Quest, but he is one of the many knights who prove unworthy of achieving the object. When Lancelot is caught in his affair with Guinevere, Sir Hector de Maris stands by his brother and leaves court with him. Sir Hector de Maris becomes one of Lancelot's top generals, participating in the battle to rescue the queen at her execution, and the defense of Joyous Guard. Like all his family, he joins Lancelot in France when they are expelled from Arthur's kingdom, and he helps defeat the army led by Mordred's sons after the Battle of Camlann. The Tizona and Colada Swords belonged to the Castilian knight Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar, known as "El Cid Campeador" in the 11th century. He was the prototype of the knight and loyal vassal who took part with his king Alphonse VI in the conquest of Toledo. Subsequently, he conquered the city, and kingdom of Valencia from the Arabians. Sword Care Maintenance Kit United States 1860 Federal Heavy Cavalry Saber Sword by Cold Steel Two Handed Great Sword by Cold Steel
The Sword Maintenance Kit comes with Blade oil, an Oiling Cloth, a Powder Ball for blade polishing, and a Brass Awl and Hammer; all in a wooden box. At the outbreak of the American Civil War, there were two types of sabre swords issued to the Federal Cavalry: "light" and "heavy". The light version saber sword was popular, but the heavy model, dubbed the "Old Wrist Breaker" was the one worth owning, as it was a superior weapon. Its 36" blade offered big reach advantages over most sabers, and its substantial weight gave it the leverage to easily crush bones and sever limbs or even a head with a single blow. The brass guard had three bars to protect the hand and the grip was wire bound leather and capped with a sturdy pommel. In its double ringed, steel scabbard, it could be easily attached to a saddle or to a belt. The Two Handed Great Sword is the biggest sword manufactured by Cold Steel. But don't let its size fool you , as there is nothing awkward or clumsy about this awesome sword. Sure it's big and meant to be carried over the shoulder instead of in a scabbard , but it's extremely well balanced and easily wielded by people of larger stature and physical strength. Weighing 6 lbs. 13.5 oz. with a 397/8" high carbon steel blade , it will make short work of pikemen or swordsmen and will prove equally effective against modern rifle butts and bayonets. To protect the hands from opposing weapons , it features a large guard with side rings plus integral parrying hooks that allow the blade to be shortened for close range slashing and stabbing attacks. The handle is made of wood and covered with leather and is extra long to afford a full two handed grip. What's more , it's capped by a heavy steel pommel that helps counter balance its long blade and serves as an effective weapon in its own right. Each sword comes fully sharpened and battle ready and we're sure you will be thrilled with its fantastic fit and finish. If you're looking for the ultimate in big performance oriented swords , your search is over.

Hand-and-a-Half Sword by Cold Steel with Scabbard Gim Sword by Cold Steel with Scabbard Knights of the Round Table Display by Marto of Toledo Spain
We would be hard pressed to think of a more versatile or effective sword than the "Bastard Sword" or "Hand-and-a-Half Sword" offered here. For a sword of this size , the Hand-and-a-Half Sword by Cold Steel is amazingly light and fast and tips the scales at approximately 3 lbs. The Hand-and-a-Half Sword by Cold Steel has a 33 1/2" long blade that is quite wide so it can produce deep shearing type cuts yet pointed enough to be effective in a thrusting attack. The Hand-and-a-Half Sword by Cold Steel has a long handle that is suitable for both a one or two handed grip and is fashioned out of wood covered in black leather. To balance the long blade the butt is capped with a beautiful "scent stopper" pommel which can be a lethal weapon in its own right. Every Hand-and-a-Half Sword reflects the highest standards in workmanship and materials and comes fully sharpened and ready for battle! To safely house the blade a very attractive scabbard made of wood covered with black leather and steel throat and chape is also included. There are two basic types of straight bladed swords used in China. One is fairly long and heavy known as the Wu Jian or "Martial Sword". The other is substantially lighter and called a Wen Jian or "Scholar's Sword" and was primarily carried for personal self defense. After studying books and video tapes on the history and use of both weapons , Cold Steel decided to make their own battle worthy Gim (Wu Jian) for serious collectors and practitioners of Chinese Martial Arts. The blade of the Cold Steel Wu Jian is made out of 1050 spring steel and measures 30" long by 11/2" wide. For cutting and slashing , both edges are quite sharp and they terminate in a strong , useful point for stabbing. The traditionally styled guard and pommel are cast out of thick sturdy brass and fit snugly on a stout Rosewood handle that is both highly decorative as well as functional. The Side Sword was a military sword of the 16th and 17th century Renaissance period that also achieved popularity among civilians, due to its relatively light weight and quickness. The Side Sword also had an advantage over its contemporary, the rapier sword, in having the ability to cut efficiently as well as thrust. Side swords were often the weapon of choice for sword and buckler fighting. The Paul Chen Practical Side Sword, based on a German original, is a beautifully proportioned piece that balances very well. The "swept" hilt affords excellent hand protection and the blade geometry makes for outstanding performance in both the cut and the thrust.

The Paul Chen Practical Side Sword carries a sparring blade designed for safety. Side sword sparring, in both sword and buckler and sword and dagger modes is becoming increasingly popular with many proponents among the ranks of the various Renaissance societies.

This fully functional side sword is tailored to meet the demands of reenactment and stage combat.
